Slack
Posts and reads messages; you can talk to kokuban's people from Slack
- You make
- a Slack app of your own (made from kokuban's manifest) and its two tokens
- Where
- https://api.slack.com/apps?new_app=1
- Command
kokuban connect slack
Steps
- Copy the manifest kokuban prints (kokuban connect slack --manifest prints it again)The manifest asks only for what kokuban uses: to post, to read the channels it is in and its direct messages, and to look up who wrote.
- On the page: From a manifest, pick your workspace, paste it, and create
- Install to Workspace, then copy the Bot User OAuth Token (xoxb-…)
- Basic Information: App-Level Tokens, Generate, with connections:write (xapp-…)Socket mode needs this token: with it kokuban opens the connection to Slack, so nothing has to reach your computer from outside.
Then connect it
kokuban connect slackkokuban asks for the key (it is not shown as you paste it), keeps it in your OS keychain, and tries it at once. If the key cannot do something, it says what to change.
On kokuban's screen, the connections list shows the services not connected yet: open one and press y, and the screen hands the terminal to this command.
Good to know
- kokuban asks for both tokens, one after the other. Neither is shown as you paste it.
- To talk to kokuban's people from Slack, set slack.chat to this connection. Send the app a direct message, or /invite @kokuban to a channel and mention it there: one thread is one talk.
- The first time someone talks to the app, kokuban's inbox asks whether it is you. On the connections screen, the Slack connection lists who is taken as you, and "not me" takes it back.
If it does not work
Invite the app to the channel (/invite @kokuban), or add the missing scope under OAuth & Permissions and install it again
kokuban connections checks every connection and says which ones need you.
Taking it back
Run kokuban disconnect slack@hq, then on api.slack.com/apps open the app and remove it from the workspace (or delete the app).
